Cyclocross is a very specific type of bicycle racing held mostly in the Fall and Winter months. Cyclocross has parallels with mountain biking, cross-country cycling, and criterium racing. The course consists of many laps of a short course over a set time. Racers are measured in their quantity of laps, not distance covered. You can expect to encounter grass, dirt, mud, gravel, sand, and a whole slew of other assortments and combinations.

Depending on your category, a race can be as quick as 30 minutes (for beginners), or as long as 60 minutes (for pros).

Courses will typically include barriers, as well as other ‘features’ that will necessitate hopping both off, and back onto, your bike. These barriers are considered obstacles. With very few exceptions, barriers are small enough for everyone to safely run through. Those skilled enough can hop their bikes right over. Often there are hills, sand pits, and muddy sections that are too difficult or slow to ride, and thus a racer will shoulder their bike and run with it

FayetteCross has made arrangements with BikeFlights so you can ship your bike to Fayetteville and avoid the hassles. You can pick it up and assemble it yourself or arrange for expert mechanics to build it for you. After the race you simply drop it off to ship back home. Cyclocross races go on regardless of bad weather. This means that if you look outside and see rain, snow, sleet, or shine, the show will still go on.

This race is fueled and supported by the local community of Fayetteville, which is why we wanted to feature the “Fayette” in Fayette Cross. FayetteCross is also an exciting cyclocross race which embodies the “Cross” part of Fayette Cross. We hope you’ll join us for this amazing mix of Fayetteville and cyclocross!

Centennial Park at Millsaps Mountain is one of the newest additions to the Fayetteville Parks and Recreation system. The new cycling-centric park is an outstanding example of a public-private partnership coming together to benefit the community. It’s a beautiful natural area just a few minutes from downtown Fayetteville. Park construction will begin in early 2020 to develop the course that will be used in future seasons and for the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in 2022.
